Hawaii is world-renowned for its lovely beaches. Swimmers, bodysurfers, boogie boarders, sand sculptors, tide poolers and, from December via February, whale watchers all take to the sand and sea. A concrete ramp should comply with the pure profile of the beach to prevent it from altering the traditional circulation of waves, longshore currents, water and wind. Shell Beach, on the south end of Ellen Browning Scripps Park, provides excellent tide pooling at low (ideally minus) tides.
